It is known that there are major socio-economic gaps between the urban and rural areas in Colombia. Compared with big business, the small and medium farmers have limited access to technology, which affects its efficiency. An additional problem is the forced displacement or migration of peasants into the cities seeking formal employment. Forced displacement is due to the violence generated by groups outside the law in the rural sector.
