Near 1.7 million new cases of cancer will be diagnoses in USA in the year 2014. The increase in incidence of GI malignancy is mainly due to an increase in colorectal cancer (CRC). In the United States 150,000 to 160,000 new cases of CRC will be diagnoses. Ten percent of those patiens will present with liver metastases, an 8 % will present with peritoneal carcinomatosis. The majority of patients with peritoneal spread will be sent home for palliative care, and the rest will be treated with chemotherapy. Only a minority will be offered cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic peritoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC).
