Resumen

Cerebrovascular dissections are an important cause of ischemic stroke in young patients. Most common clinical manifestations are headache, Horner´s syndrome and neurologic manifestations secondary to ischemia. Nearly all of the spontaneous cases of internal carotid artery (ICA) dissection occur at the cervical portion, this is felt to be related with the high range of mobility in this segment, however few cases of spontaneous intracranial ICA dissection have been reported in the literature. We present a case of a intrapetrous dissection of the ICA in a patient complaining of headache and with neurological deficit due to hemodynamic changes and secondary watershed infarctions.
