INTRODUCTION Smoking is associated with an important number of chronic diseases leading to physical disability, serious deterioration in quality of life and eventually, to premature death. Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, COPD and lung cancer represent the most important disease entities associated with smoking. There are others that are less wellknown, such as blindness. We will herewith describe the clinical case of a female smoker that developed age-related macular degeneration (ARMD). We will review current evidence that may lead us to assume that blindness is associated to the consumption of tobacco products and will discuss the smoking cessation treatment offered to this patient.
