The Instituto Nacional de Rehabilitación (INR) was created on June 22, 2005. This required a modification to the law of the National Institutes of Health in Mexico, which added a 12th institution to the already existing hospitals. This effort represented the recognition of many years of effort in the field of health care directed towards creating awareness of the growing problem of disabilities.
