Resumen

Introducción: Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in developed countries, in Mexico is the second leading cause of cancer death. In Veracruz is in the tenth place of disease. To know the epidemiological and risk factors Veracruz population and diagnose us prevent timely improving life expectancy and quality of life. Objetivo: To determine the frequency and describe the epidemiological behavior of colorectal cancer in the city of Veracruz on a period between January 2008 and December 2012. Material y métodos: A descriptive, retrospective, observational study in patients with histopathological confirmed diagnosis of colorectal cancer during the period from January 2008 to December 2012. Resultados: We studied 298 cases with annual average 60 cases. The mean age was 67.30 ± 9.87 years and male gender predominated. In the 86.8% identified different risk factors. 100% were adenocarcinomas, 90.8% and moderately well differentiated, the most frequent location was the sigmoid rectum (55.36%). The stage at diagnosis corresponded to the type IIB in 53.9% of cases Conclusión: Colorectal cancer ranked 2nd place in the digestive system neoplasms predominated between the 7th and 8th decade of life in males. We identified a high percentage of cases with a history of cancer and hereditary factors associated with diet. Colonoscopy should be considered in patients with risk factors and colonic symptoms from age 50 and to promote increased intake of fiber and vegetables in the diet.
