Factores psicosociales, estrés y género en docentes de una universidad pública

Psychosocial factors, stress and gender in teachers from a public university Introduction: Teaching is a profession that may be suffering high levels of stress, even above other professions. The World Health Organization has highlighted the importance of labor stress as a public health problem because of its effects on health and its effect on absenteeism, health costs and the deficit in the quality of service provided by the worker. Objective: To analyze the relationship between psychosocial factors, stress and gender in senior high school teachers of a public university in Guadalajara. Methods: We performed an observational, cross-sectional and correlational study in a sample of 330 teachers working in senior high schools. Data were captured through a survey self-applied which contained demographic data, labor, the scale of psychosocial factors and the stress symptoms questionnaire. Results: 54.2% of teachers perceived negative psychosocial factors in their workplace, receiving the highest scores: remuneration due to performance and the workplace conditions. Psychosocial labor factors were related to stress; whose were perceived differently according to gender. 21.5% presented stress, being more common in women, the most frequent symptoms were: somatic problems and sleep disturbances. Discussion: The negative psychosocial labor factors were related to the presence of stress. This unfavorable interaction between the working conditions and the worker is reflected in the worker’s health.
